Mothers have a tremendous number of hours to offer employers, but these hours don’t fit into the traditional, rigid work week of eight hours in a row for five days straight. Employers stuck in this old hiring paradigm are missing out on great people and the value and expertise they bring to the table. What an incredible loss!
It’s time for a major shift in employment practices. We suggest that employers consider the value of Applicant Available Time (AAT) in conjunction with qualifications and experience. AAT is a new conceptualization of work that makes it possible to reach, and hire from, an amazing and previously untapped resource: mothers. It’s the foundation upon which MotherWorks is built. Employers who adopt this broader way of thinking are rewarded with a great sea of talent and opportunity. MotherWorks makes it easy for employers to find people with the qualifications and core competencies they seek—in a way that works for everyone.

We have all known many women who have tried to do it all for themselves and their families within an employment paradigm that has made it virtually impossible. This part-time/full-time structure simply does not work for the way we live today, and it has taken a tremendous toll, particularly on mothers, in terms of stress and the ability to lead a balanced life.
Our idea is for mothers to gather in once place and in tremendous numbers that employers cannot (and don’t want to) ignore. MotherWorks is much more than a jobsite; it’s a real movement toward equality of access. MotherWorks becomes stronger and stronger as we share the movement with our friends, families, and colleagues. Together, we're making history by changing the employment landscape forever.
A few years ago, I took a break from the workforce to raise my son. I was still available for work during certain hours, but they were not often in the traditional 9 to 5 window, and I could not commit to traveling to a specific location.
I was frustrated because I had no way to find employment that fit my life--and employers certainly had no idea where to find me. I was always worried about the growing gap in my resume and being left behind by the rapidly changing workplace.
All that is in the past since I joined MotherWorks. Now I can find out about opportunities that match my skills and education from small, local businesses as well as large companies. Companies are even contacting me! I'm so happy to have the kind of access to employment that I never imagined possible. You can bet I have told everyone I know about this movement!
